HVAC Rebates: Start with Eligibility—not Equipment

Which HVAC rebates may be available in Chilliwack? Local homeowners searching for HVAC rebates or heating rebates in Chilliwack may find support for heat pumps, dual-fuel heating systems and water heaters. Heat pump rebates may be available through specific utility or provincial programs. Eligible commercial properties may qualify for rooftop-unit tune-ups, dual-fuel rooftop equipment or HVAC controls incentives. The right program depends on your utility account, existing heating system, household or business eligibility, equipment and installation requirements.

Rebate programs have different rules for household income, utility account, existing heating fuel, equipment efficiency, contractor registration and application timing. Some programs cannot be combined. Check the official requirements and obtain any approval in advance before purchasing equipment or starting installation.

Local service area: Chilliwack, Sardis, Abbotsford, Cultus Lake, Yarrow, Rosedale, Agassiz and Harrison Hot Springs, subject to project and scheduling availability.

Residential air-source heat pump for a home energy upgrade

1. CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program

The CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program offers enhanced HVAC rebates and other energy-upgrade incentives for qualifying income-qualified households. Depending on the household, existing primary heating source and project, eligible upgrades may include heat pumps, dual-fuel systems, heat-pump water heating and related improvements.

  • Household income, property value and home type affect eligibility.
  • Eligible participants must register and receive an eligibility code before the upgrade begins.
  • Heat-pump installations must meet the program’s equipment, sizing and registered-contractor rules.

Rebate amounts vary by income level and upgrade type. Review the current rules rather than relying on older rebate advertisements.

Read the official eligibility requirements before booking work.

2. HVAC rebates: BC Hydro heat pump rebates

Eligible BC Hydro residential customers may qualify for heat pump HVAC rebates when replacing a primary all-electric heating system, such as electric baseboards or an electric furnace, with an eligible air-source heat pump.

  • Whole-home heating: up to $4,000 when the heat pump meets the program’s whole-home heating requirements.
  • Partial-home heating: up to $1,500 when the system meets the partial-home requirements.
  • 2026 limited-time bonus: eligible installations had to be completed, invoiced and paid between August 1 and October 31, 2026. A complete application for qualifying work must be submitted by November 30, 2026. This bonus period has closed for new installations; the application deadline for qualifying completed work remains November 30, 2026.

Program requirements include eligible equipment, installation by a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member, and submission of the required invoice and supporting documents. Replacing an existing heat pump or adding another indoor head to an existing system is not eligible under this offer. Review the current BC Hydro heat pump rebate rules and application steps before committing to a project.

3. FortisBC Dual-Fuel Rebates for Heat Pumps and Furnaces

A dual-fuel system pairs an electric heat pump with a high-efficiency gas furnace. FortisBC lists separate residential dual-fuel rebates for income-qualified and non-income-qualified customers. These incentives may support an eligible heating-system upgrade, but approval depends on the current program rules.

  • Income-qualified option: up to $8,000 for eligible installations completed on or after October 15, 2026, subject to the current rules.
  • Standard option: up to $4,000 for an eligible system, subject to product and installation requirements.

Both current pathways require the system to replace an existing primary gas furnace that is at least 15 years old. The installing contractor must be a Technical Safety BC licensed gas contractor who is a member in good standing of the Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) and listed for the applicable rebate at the time of installation. The approved equipment list, commissioning, heat-load calculation, thermostat settings and application documents also matter. Confirm the contractor and product requirements with FortisBC before proceeding.

4. HVAC rebates for water heaters and heat-pump water heaters

FortisBC lists several separate water-heating incentives that may be relevant to homeowners researching HVAC rebates for water-heating upgrades. The heat-pump water-heater rebates of up to $1,000 (standard) and $2,500 (income-qualified) apply when an eligible electric heat-pump water heater replaces a standard electric storage-tank water heater. The $2,500 option has additional household-income and property requirements.

A separate income-qualified natural-gas water-heater rebate offers up to $3,000 for eligible condensing tankless or condensing storage models replacing an existing gas or propane water heater. Household income, property value, home age and model eligibility apply.

These are different program pathways and are not automatically used together. Utility account, existing water-heater type, household qualification, product and contractor requirements vary. Review the current rules before purchasing:

5. FortisBC HVAC appliance-maintenance rebates

For homeowners searching for furnace rebates, FortisBC’s appliance-maintenance program may offer a smaller service incentive rather than a furnace-replacement rebate. It provides up to $150 for qualifying maintenance on eligible natural-gas appliances performed by a licensed gas contractor. The current breakdown is:

  • Furnace or boiler: $50, maximum one per household.
  • Tankless water heater: $50, maximum one per household; storage-tank water heaters are not eligible.
  • Fireplace: $25 each, maximum two per household.

The applicant must be a residential FortisBC natural-gas customer and submit the application within 60 days of the service invoice. Not every service visit or appliance automatically qualifies. Review the official FortisBC appliance-maintenance rebate requirements before booking.

Separate heat-pump service offer: FortisBC also lists a $50 rebate for eligible heat-pump servicing. It is limited to eligible FortisBC or participating municipal electricity customers, requires service by a licensed electrical contractor, and has a 60-day application window. See the official heat-pump service rebate terms. This is separate from the gas-appliance maintenance offer.

6. Commercial HVAC tune-up rebates for furnaces and rooftop units

For eligible businesses, FortisBC’s commercial and industrial heating-system optimization program includes HVAC rebates for tune-ups on qualifying furnaces and rooftop units: up to 100% of eligible project cost, capped at $400, under the published program terms.

  • The equipment generally must be at least 36 months old.
  • A qualifying furnace or rooftop-unit tune-up must not have been completed within the previous 36 months.
  • The program requires the applicable scope checklist to be completed by an approved technician.
  • FortisBC customer and account-rate conditions apply, and an application with supporting documents is required.

Trust Heating & Cooling services commercial rooftop equipment, including units in the 2- to 15-ton range. Before scheduling work under this rebate, confirm the current approved-technician and contractor requirements with FortisBC; service capability alone does not establish program approval. Review FortisBC’s commercial heating-system optimization requirements.

7. FortisBC dual-fuel HVAC rebates for rooftop units

Eligible commercial and industrial properties may qualify for a FortisBC rebate when replacing a primary gas space-heating system with an eligible dual-fuel rooftop unit that combines an electric heat pump with a gas burner.

  • Standard-efficiency dual-fuel RTU: 30% of eligible project cost, up to $150,000 per premise.
  • Condensing-efficiency dual-fuel RTU: 30% of eligible project cost, up to $225,000 per premise.

Eligibility depends on FortisBC account type, the building and existing heating system, the approved product list, required switchover temperature, contractor licensing and application timing. The published program generally requires application within 365 days of the product purchase date. Confirm product eligibility before ordering. Review FortisBC’s dual-fuel rooftop-unit rebate requirements.

8. FortisBC HVAC rebates and building-controls incentives

Eligible commercial and industrial customers may be able to claim incentives for certain HVAC controls that improve equipment operation and energy management. Current examples include:

  • Connected thermostats: $40 per eligible unit in the standard program.
  • Domestic hot-water recirculation controls: $1,500 per eligible unit, subject to the qualifying energy-source and product-list requirements.
  • Advanced rooftop-unit controls: $350 per ton for eligible RTUs under 15 tons, or $200 per ton for eligible units from 15 to 25 tons.

Eligible building type, utility account, existing controls, product specifications and application deadlines vary by measure. Some measures cannot be combined. Check the official details before purchasing equipment. See FortisBC’s current HVAC and building-controls rebate details.

How to Prepare for HVAC Rebates

  1. Identify the program. Check the official rules for your utility account, heating source, household or business type and planned upgrade.
  2. Confirm approval steps. Register first or obtain an approval code if required before buying equipment or starting work.
  3. Verify the contractor and product. Some programs require a registered contractor, an approved technician, listed equipment or a specific commissioning checklist.
  4. Keep complete records. Save eligibility correspondence, product model numbers, quotes, paid invoices, permits, photos and commissioning documents as required.
  5. Meet the deadline. Application windows differ by program; use the current official deadline rather than an old estimate.

Rebate rules and available funding can change without notice. A maximum advertised amount is not a guarantee of payment and generally cannot exceed eligible costs.

HVAC Rebates: Common Questions

Can Trust Heating & Cooling guarantee that I will receive a rebate?

No. The program administrator decides eligibility and the approved amount. We can discuss the equipment and installation scope, but approval depends on the current program rules and required documentation.

Should I apply before installation?

Some programs require registration or approval before equipment is purchased or installed. Check the exact program terms first; starting work too early can make a project ineligible.

Can I combine CleanBC, BC Hydro and FortisBC rebates?

Not always. Some offers cannot be combined with other provincial, federal or utility-funded rebates. Ask the program administrators to confirm which combination, if any, is permitted for your specific project.

Are commercial rooftop-unit rebates the same as residential heat-pump rebates?

No. Commercial rooftop-unit incentives have different account, building, equipment, contractor and application requirements from residential programs.
