Boiler and water heater FAQs: common questions
Boiler and water heater FAQs: what signs mean a boiler needs service?
Unusual noises, uneven heating, leaks, pressure changes, repeated shutdowns or a sudden change in performance are reasons to arrange a qualified inspection. Do not attempt repairs on gas equipment yourself.
Boiler and water heater FAQs: how often is service needed?
Follow the equipment manufacturer’s recommendations and arrange service with a qualified professional. Regular maintenance can help identify wear, support safe operation and maintain performance.
Are there FortisBC rebates for boiler maintenance?
Eligible residential FortisBC natural-gas customers may qualify for a $50 service rebate for qualifying furnace or boiler maintenance, but only one of those two appliances can be claimed under the program. This is a maintenance rebate, not a boiler replacement or purchase rebate. A separate $50 service rebate may be available for qualifying tankless water-heater maintenance; standard storage-tank water heaters are not eligible under that tankless service offer. The work must be completed by a licensed gas contractor, and the customer must apply within 60 days of the service invoice with the required account information and paid receipt. FortisBC makes the final eligibility decision, and program terms can change.
Read FortisBC’s official appliance maintenance rebate information.
Can I get a rebate for replacing a water heater?
Rebates depend on the type of water heater, the home’s existing fuel source and the current program requirements. Some programs focus on eligible electric heat-pump water heaters, while commercial buildings may have separate offers. Do not assume a standard gas storage-tank replacement qualifies.

Is the dual-fuel heat-pump rebate for boilers?
The dual-fuel offer is intended for qualifying integrated ducted heat-pump and gas or propane furnace systems. A boiler-only replacement should not be assumed to qualify. Ask the program administrator to confirm whether your proposed system is eligible.
How do I arrange water heater service in Chilliwack?
Contact Trust Heating & Cooling to discuss your equipment, the issue you are experiencing and the service options available. When possible, have the equipment make and model, approximate age, any visible error code and a brief description of the symptoms ready. Do not remove equipment covers or attempt gas, electrical or pressurized-system repairs yourself.
Which communities do you serve?
Chilliwack is our primary local focus. We also assess service requests from nearby communities including Sardis, Promontory, Fairfield Island, Ryder Lake, Rosedale, Popkum and Chilliwack Mountain. Contact us with your address to confirm current availability.
Should I repair or replace my water heater?
The decision depends on the equipment’s condition, age, repair history, hot-water demand and the cost of the proposed work. A qualified assessment can help compare repair with replacement and identify suitable equipment options.
How can I fix a leaking hot water tank?
A leaking hot water tank should be checked promptly because the source may be a pipe connection, valve, tank fitting or a corroded tank. If it is safe to do so, keep people away from the water, avoid touching wet electrical equipment, and turn off the water supply to the tank using an accessible shutoff valve. Do not remove covers, attempt gas or electrical repairs, or try to patch the tank. If you smell gas, leave the area and contact your gas utility or emergency services from a safe location. Contact a qualified service professional to identify the leak and determine whether repair or replacement is needed. If the tank itself is leaking, replacement may be necessary.
Why is my water heater not producing enough hot water?
Possible causes include high household demand, a thermostat setting, sediment buildup, a failed component or an issue with the energy supply. The cause varies by equipment type. Check only user-accessible settings described in the manual, and do not remove covers or work on gas or electrical components. If the problem persists, arrange a professional assessment.
Is a tankless water heater better than a storage tank?
Neither option is best for every property. A tankless unit heats water on demand, while a storage tank keeps a reserve of heated water. Suitability depends on peak hot-water demand, available utilities, installation requirements, maintenance and budget. Confirm sizing and compatibility before choosing replacement equipment.
